To date, the number of service units of Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service has grown to 43. Brief descriptions of services provided are :

Nursery Service¡ACommunity Development Service¡AYouth Service ¡AFamily Service¡AElderly Service¡ARehabilitation Service

Nursery Service

  The units are to provide day-care pre-school education for children between 2 to 6. It focuses on children's emotional, intellectual and physical development, as well as endeavoring to enhance smooth socialization and the learning process. In order to meet social needs, the Occasional Child Care Service was begun in 1991 to provide short-term day care service (full-day or half-day) for children. In addition, the Integrated Program for Disabled Children was set up.

Community Development Service

Community Centre Division : Shek Wu Community Development Project
  The Project provides services to Ling Shan Tsuen, Shek Wu Sun Tsuen and Ma Sze Po Tsuen at New Territories (North). The goal is to improve the residents' quality of life. Other main focuses are the "Experiential Living Camp with Squatters," the adverse effect on the residents due to flooding and new river improvement works.

 

Community Development Division : Martha Boss Community Centre

 

The Centre aims to serve Kowloon City Region, whose target population is between 80,000 and 120,000, to build up the community's sense of belonging and to develop the community into a harmonious one. Facilities include a canteen, covered playground, basketball court, computer room, multi-purpose hall, library, study reading room and classrooms.

Youth Service

Children & Youth Centre & Integrated Service Centre

 

The Centre provides guidance, counseling, supportive services, and strengthened socialization based on the integrated mode so as to cultivate social responsibility of youngsters. Existing services include school social work, high-risk youth, Youth Pre-Employment Training and Base Employment Support Network.

 

School Social Work Division

  The Division provides stationing school social work services to secondary schools. These include:
(1) Casework service
(2) Groups and programs e.g. interpersonal relationship group, peer counseling scheme and adventure-based training
(3) Consultation service : give professional advice in school meetings, e.g. parent-teacher associations, staff meetings
(4) Coordination and mobilization of non school-based community resources for strengthening the school/community linkage and facilitating students' personal development

 

Youth Psychotropic Substance Abuse Centre

  The centres were set up in New Territories East and Kowloon East. They have close contact with the Substance Abuse Clinics at nearby hospitals and receive referrals from the Probation Unit, the Outreaching Unit or Family Service Unit. Pastoral counseling services are included to help youngsters develop a positive attitude, a healthy life style and clear life goals.

Family Service

Family Life Education

 

The Division provides diversified services and programs with major themes such as parenting, marital relationships, marriage preparation and youth development. Activities such as groups, family tasks, day camps, workshops, carnivals and competitions are organized to enhance family solidarity.

 

Foster Care Service

  The aim is to match a suitable foster home to provide temporary home care for needy children. Regular home visits to foster homes, individual counseling to parents and children, and liaison with referring workers arranged by foster care workers. The worker has to arrange school visits and spot check to foster homes to understand the children's adjustment, development and progress.

Elderly Service

Neighbourhood Elderly Centres

  The centres provide a range of comprehensive services to cater for the psycho-social and developmental needs of both the healthy and mildly frail elderly. These include health education, educational and developmental activities, information and referral on community resources, carers' support services, counseling, reaching out and networking, social and recreational activities, meal service and drop-in service, elderly volunteer scheme, etc.

 

Day Care Centre for the Elderly

  The Centre provides a wide range of centre-based care and support services during daytime for those in need of personal and nursing care. The aim is to improve their quality of life. Services include rehabilitation training, health education, carer support services, counseling and referral services, social and recreational activities, meal delivery and transportation service, etc.

 

Elderly Home

  The homes provide residential services for the aged with meals, nursing care, and counseling services. Various in-door and out-door activities, such as interest groups and birthday parties are held. The homes aim at enriching the quality of life of the homemates, and facilitating the communication and relationship among the homemates. Homemates' participation in home activity and different volunteer services has always been encouraged. In recent years, their volunteer service extended beyond the boundaries of the homes into the community.

Rehabilitation Service

Day Activity Centres

 

The Centres provide day care and training in daily living skills and simple work skills to mentally handicapped adults who are unable to benefit from vocational training or sheltered employment. The Centres train them to be more independent in their daily lives, and to prepare them for better integration into the community or for transition to other forms of service or care where appropriate.

 

Hostels for the Moderately to Severely Mentally Handicapped

  The Hostels provide home living for persons with severely/low to moderate mental handicap who lack basic self-care skills and require assistance in personal and nursing care. They help to promote the quality of life of the residents and to maximize their potential through the provision of a caring and stimulating environment; to maintain their health and to assist them in their varying personal care needs and daily living activities.

 

Social and Recreational Centres for the Disabled

  The Centres aim at organizing various social projects and activities, to enhance the development of the self-potential and social skills of the blind and the physically handicapped. Programs are designed to encourage them to make the best use of spare time, such as participation in social and community activities, and to promote a spirit of social integration and build up a harmonious society.

 

Home Based Training and Supporting Team

  The Team is to meet the holistic and individual needs of severely mentally handicapped persons by providing a well-planned and coordinated range of services facilitative to their social rehabilitation. Services included training and support services, network support services and occupational therapy services.
